PROSPECTIVE PUPPY OWNER QUESTIONNAIRE

Are you aware of the special requirements relating to the temperament of Vizslas?

Most people are aware that Vizslas have a high exercise requirement, but I would suggest that above this they have a huge need to be social.  This means that for families that are out at work all day they do not make ideal pets.  If they are left regularly for long periods of time they are very likely to become unhappy and end up chewing furniture etc as an expression of their frustration and anxiety.

On the other hand, for Vizslas that are regularly exercised and have plenty of companionship, they make the most loving and loyal family members imaginable.

That's why we have a list of questions here for prospective puppy owners as it is very important to us that all our puppies go to loving homes that are capable of caring for them...

HOME & WORK-LIFE BALANCE

How would you describe your home and work-life balance?

YOUR EXPERIENCE

What is your current or previous experience of having a puppy / dog?

As a breed Vizslas have special needs.  As such, having a Vizsla in the family is easier if you have experience of owning other dogs.

YOUR LOCALE

Where do You Live?

This may seem like a strange question, but in order to give a Vizsla the exercise it needs then it is ideal if you live near parks and countryside.

YOUR GARDEN

Does your home have an enclosed garden suitable for a dog?

Again, it may not sound overly relevant, but sometimes it's the smaller details that make the difference.

(Hope you find the photo amusing.  We did!  This was Bree at 14 months still experimenting with pushing the boundaries.)

YOUR CHILDREN

Do you have any children and if so how old are they?

Vizslas are some of the most loving dogs imaginable, and make wonderful pets for families.  Adult Vizslas are incredibly good with kids, including babies and toddlers, but puppies (as is the case with most breeds) don't tend to differentiate what they choose to chew for the first few months when they get home.

CHOICES

What Sex of Dog Would You Prefer?

Would you consider having a dog of a different sex depending on litter outcome?

Do you have a preference to owning a bitch or a dog?

Many base their choice on previous experience.  So for instance we have only ever had bitches.  But here a few thoughts that may make you think...

Dogs tend to be lower in energy than bitches (although Vizslas may be something of an exception to this general rule).  Dogs also tend to be more loyal and willing to please than bitches who can sometime want to test the boundaries (see picture above!).

These can be minor differences, but worth considering.
